The Rig Went Down but The Road Didn't
Road Log Entry
The rig went down.
Five days. No miles. No logbook. No plan.
And here’s the truth…
Not every breakdown is a setback.
The A/C was fluctuating between cool and hot as hell.
I thought we could handle it because we needed the miles.
It hit 94 in that truck and I was trying to sleep.
I finally said,
“Damn that load and damn the money.”
I can’t work if I can’t sleep.
So we shut it down and got it repaired.
Sometimes the road pulls your air brakes for you
just so you’ll look out the window.
We ended up hitting spots in Albuquerque we usually fly past at 65.
Saw things we’ve missed a hundred times before.
Actually sat still long enough to have the conversations that normally get cut short by a deadline.
And it hit me—
I was more stressed about losing miles
than I was about taking care of myself.
Just because you’re parked doesn’t mean you’re not moving forward.

The Shift
Moving forward…
I see it different now.
Most drivers panic the second they’re out of service.
I used to be right there with them.
Clock stops… and it feels like everything’s slipping.
So you rush. Try to fix it. Get rolling again.
But sitting there, I realized—
not everything that stops needs to be rushed back into motion.
Some things need a minute.
That quiet… that stillness…
that’s where you actually see what’s going on.
Awareness.
That’s where it starts.
The road didn’t go anywhere.
We just needed a minute to get ourselves right.
Now when we get back on it,
it’s not just about moving…
it’s about moving right.

The Architect’s Note
Most people measure progress by motion.
Miles. Output. Activity.
But progress isn’t always visible like that.
Sometimes progress looks like:
- stopping before you break something worse
- choosing rest over money
- paying attention instead of pushing through
That’s not falling behind.
That’s recalibrating.
---
Directive
The next time life forces a stop, don’t rush past it.
Ask:
- What am I not seeing right now?
- What am I ignoring because I want to keep moving?
Because awareness isn’t something you add later.
It’s where everything starts.

Become the Architect.
Design your road—even the detours.
